High School Student: Concurrent Credit
With UA Rich Mountain’s concurrent credit program, high school students who meet the program requirements can earn college credit while in high school. This program is designed for students in grades 10-12. Students work with Rich Mountain admissions staff and their high school counselor to apply for admissions into the program. This program is the enrollment of a high school student in post-secondary education classes to receive high school credit and college-level credit.
While course offerings vary at each high school, some of the courses offered include English Composition I & II, Oral Communications, US History, Chemistry, College Algebra, Trigonometry, and Calculus.
UA Rich Mountain also offers several general education courses online which high school students are eligible to take as long as the requirements for admission into the college and those for the specific courses are met. The student should work with the high school counselor for a full course listing.
Concurrent credit students do not qualify to receive federal financial aid. However, UA Rich Mountain offers concurrent credit courses to area high school students at a significantly reduced rate. The cost is $102 per credit hour for courses taught by a high school instructor and $125 per credit hour for courses taught by a UARM instructor (most courses are 3 credit hours).
Concurrent credit general education classes offered will transfer to any public college/university in the state of Arkansas. The only time this would not be true is if the student enters an honors program at a college or plans to attend a private college/university. You can visit the Arkansas Course Transfer System to find out the transferability of a course.
Dual Credit
Some courses offered by UA Rich Mountain qualify for Dual Credit from area high schools. Dual credit is for students taking courses outside the school hours and at the discretion of the student. These courses are for college credit and may transfer. As per public school policy, these course credits MAY be used for high school credit toward graduation. Students should contact their local school district for guidance on which courses qualify at the district. There is no reduction in tuition for students taking dual credit courses.
For further information about concurrent and dual credit programs contact the UARM admissions staff.
Career Center
The primary goals of career center courses are to give students the ability to make an informed career choice, to teach marketable job skills and to encourage students to continue their education after high school.
